Best of Winter Beauty

With dropping temperatures, winter blues hits our body with full force. Not only the mood could need a uplift, our cracked skin looks dry and irritated and lures for some extra TLC. The good news: A bespoke beauty regime can make all the difference. Therefore we’d like to introduce you to products and treatments that are exactly what you need to nourish and pamper your body, replenish and lock in skin’s moisture and built new barriers to fight the cold and windy.

Dry skin is common in winter. Because of chilly temperatures, biting wind, steamy showers and drying indoor heat, our skin gets dehydrated. Cells turn over more slowly, and the whole circulation gets sluggish. The result is that skin becomes chapped and irritated, and appears dull, and more susceptible to premature aging because fine lines look more pronounced—and just like that, the glow is gone. This is why skincare is even more important during the winter season and the whole body needs some extra Love in terms of cleansing, moisturizing, masks, oils, and serums, rituals and treatments.

Exfoliating, Cleaning and Relaxing:
Arms and legs have fewer oil glands in winter time, so they tend to be drier and scalier than other parts. To get rid of dead skin, you need a gentle exfoliater. The Herbivore Coco Rose Body Polish is a highly moisturizing and gently exfoliating blend of virgin coconut oil and delicately floral Moroccan Rose: it leaves your skin soft and hydrated with a light scent of coconut and rose petals. All oils it contains are cold-pressed and every (all-natural) ingredient has a therapeutic reason. If you‘re more the kind of person who takes a shower before bedtime, we recommend the Night Delight Clarifying Body Wash with grapefruit, lemongrass and peppermint which not only leaves your skin clean and soft but also clears your mind after a long day with its blend from essential oils. For irritated and dry face skin, there is a new cleaning kid in the bathroom shelf: Binu Natural Soap with Calendula is very mild. It works with pure vegetable oils such as native coconut oil, olive oil and marigold, that has an anti-inflammatory effect and promotes the healing of wounds and skin damage. Goat’s milk and shea butter nurture the skin after cleansing and ensure the preservation of the natural moisture. If you consider a relaxing bath after a stressful day the Susanne Kaufmann Oil Bath for the Senses has a relaxing and calming aroma with Ylang-Ylang, patchouli and lavender, that stimulates the senses and leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Lotions, Masks, Oils, and Creams:
Oil is not for everybody. If you don‘t have the leisure time in the morning to let body oils dry, try the new velvet body milk Fable by Ellis Brooklyn, featuring camellia, rosehip, and meadowfoam seed oils and the fresh, modern scent of neroli, crisp amber, cedarwood and petitgrain. It wakes you up and gives you power for the day. The Oskia Renaissance Face Mask is a nutri-active radiance mask that brightens and resurfaces. Designed to increase cell turnover, boost radiance and reduce the appearance of fine lines and imperfections, this buttery and balmy exfoliating mask leaves the complexion smoother, more refined and illuminated. For a deliciously dewy face, Linda Rodin‘s Olio Lusso has blended the top eleven essential oils known for their nourishing, refreshing and soothing properties to create this luxurious face oil that feeds and balances skin whether it’s dry, greasy or sensitive. This facial oil builds radiant, balanced skin, much less prone to breakouts. Wake up your tired eyes with the caffeine-rich, antioxidant eye serum Eye Love Roll On from Raww in a Jar. It improves the appearance of puffy under-eyes and brightens dark circles. Formulated with sixteen sources of hydration and twelve sources of age-defying botanicals that lift, plump and volumize the look of the skin, Tata Harpers Crème Riche is the most rich moisturizer. And don‘t forget to put on an (illuminating) serum like Barbara Sturms Glow Drops from time to time, as it transforms your skin, restores radiance, refines pores and gives skin an instantly radiant result with its light-reflecting pigments.

Lips, Hands, Hair:
When you‘re in need of some extreme hydration for dry lips, skin patches, cuticles, nasal passages and more, the super dense, award-winning Lanolips 101 Ointment balm penetrates and seals in moisture everywhere, even on baby‘s bottoms. As hands are often very much exosed to cold weather, they need a special rejuvenating treatment like the Vital Hand Cream from Nuori. Formulated with botanical squalane, shea butter, grape seed and almond oils, the cream effectively restores the skin’s moisture levels and smoothes out fine lines. A complex of vitamin E and white tea extract protects the skin against free radicals. But not only our skin needs some extra care during cold weather periods, our hair does too. Give it a much better look and condition with a weightless but nutrient-rich treatment like the Young Again leave-in oil by Kevin Murphy that infuses hair with shine and elasticity and powerful antioxidants that protection from heat and the environment.

Fresh Face:
To give your face a fresh glow without looking too done, apply a breathable complexion like Charlotte Tilbury‘s Light Wonder Foundation. It not only smoothes, hydrates and illuminates the skin but also unifies uneven skin like minimises pores and reduces the appearence of wrinkles. To look like „the best version of yourself“, as Victoria Beckham introduces her very new beauty collection for Estée Lauder, it needs a warm senusal glow of sun. The matte Java Sun Bronzer is a one-shade-fits-all product, most natural-looking, and gives every teint a sun-kissed finish. Add some creamy blush, lipstick or mascara–and you‘re done!

Treatments at home or in the Spa:
Getting a facial in the winter can be tricky. Skin is often more sensitive and bad holiday habits can lead to even more skin issues. In lieu of aggressive treatments and formulas, opt for gentle, fruit-based exfoliants and intense hydrators to infuse moisture into your complexion. A two-part treatment that uses a mask or a deep-cleansing facial to refine pores followed by a deeply hydrating, antioxidant-rich formula to restore moisture is a classic choice and will make you feel comfortable in your skin again. During winter times we recommend adding on a Vitamin C treatment, which helps to battle dryness and dehydration. For some full body exfoliation, get a rubdown and rinse-off with a scrub–as your body isn‘t as sensitive as your face‘s skin but needs to get rid of dead cells as well. Finish the polish with a warm rain-shower-rinse. A seaweed gel massage or nutrient-rich Dead Sea mud packs will rectify that bloated feeling of postholiday feast. Followed by a detoxifying body wrap and a moisturizing elixir, your body not only feels new but might be half a size slimmer. If the polish is not your highest goal but your tense muscles and mind need some relaxation, an aromatherapy massage is the perfect way to get rid of stress. You can choose the oils that best suit your needs, and just relax as they rub the tension away and your skin even benefits from the oils. When you don‘t feel like leaving the house for heading to your local spa, start a full-body treatment you can easily do at home by soaking in a tub filled to the brim with botanical oils, therapeutic herbs, and rich milk to ease muscles and calm the mind. Then put on an enzyme face mask and give yourself a gentle exfoliating body scrub to rid yourself of dull, flaky skin–arm- and leg-baring dress, here you come again next summer!
